On the meeting between the Ambassador of Russia to Nepal A.A. Novikov with the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation of Nepal B. Pun

On December 8th, 2020 Ambassador of Russia to Nepal A.A. Novikov met with the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation of Nepal B. Pun. Vice-President of Lanta-Bank, member of the board of directors of pharmaceutical company "Imtek" V.K.Dmitriev and advisor to the chairman of the board of Moscow Industrial Bank Y.V. Gusev were also invited to the event from the Russian side.

The minister received a memorable gift from the state corporation "Rosatom" - a bust of the great Russian physicist B.V. Kurchatov. The parties discussed issues of cooperation in the implementation of investment projects in the field of energy and irrigation. Minister B. Pun informed about the existing legal framework in this area, expressed a desire to attract Russian technologies, companies and investments in the energy sector of Nepal. The two sides also discussed the methods of generation and transmission of electricity in the Himalayan republic, discussed the most promising projects for the construction of hydroelectric power plants in the country.

B. Pun remembered and thanked the Russian side for the help in the establishment and development of hydropower in Nepal - one of the oldest hydropower plants in the country "Khopasi" (capacity 2.4 MW) was built in 1965 with the participation of the Soviet Union. The topic for the dialogue was also the meeting of the Minister with the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin during the Russian Energy Week 2019.

The parties agreed to continue and actively develop cooperation in the field of hydropower and irrigation in order to promote the development and prosperity of Russia and Nepal.
