On celebration of the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation
On 22 August, Russia celebrates the Day of the State Flag.
28 years ago, as per the decision of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR, the flag of equal horizontal white, blue and red stripes became the official national symbol. On 20 August 1994, the decree of the President of the Russian Federation established celebration of the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation.
The banner has more than 300 years of history. The day of birth of the Russian tricolor is considered to be 20 January 1705, when white-blue-red flag was granted to the merchant fleet by the decree of the emperor Peter I. For the first time officially, the colours became the national flag in 1896.
On the occasion of the Day, the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Kathmandu hosted the exhibition of flags of the Russian Federation and announced results of the competition of drawings “My flag, my country, my Motherland” organized for children of the Embassy staff and compatriots.
